Our look at a vibrant city or neighborhood.
The fastest growing metro area in the Midwest, Sioux Falls has a small town feel while offering big city entertainment. Visitors can take advantage of a wide variety of recreation, art, history, shopping, and fine dining while surrounded by unique geography along the Big Sioux River.
The city’s main attraction is Falls Park, which is just as its name implies: a park with a waterfall. Take a free trolley ride to the area, and stick around for the free 45-minute evening light show which delivers the history of the Sioux Falls area. If you get hungry, enjoy snacks from the highly touted cafe which overlooks the falls or join the many picnickers. If you enjoy the idea of Falls Park, you’ll also enjoy The Outdoor Campus, a nature hub with an aquarium, walking trails, and museum. There’s also a neat butterfly house on the campus.
If the weather’s poor, try these great indoor activities. Start by taking a free tour at the Old Courthouse Museum, a gorgeous old building packed with interesting historical exhibits. Continue your history lessons by visiting the outline of the USS South Dakota Battleship in Sherman Park. It’s certainly a unique way to experience the most decorated ship of WWII. For another indoor option, you can always see what’s shaking at the Washington Pavilion, which features performing and visual arts centers, a science center, and a 60-foot domed-screen theater.
For lodging, try the elegant ClubHouse Hotel, or lay your hat at The Victorian, a stately B&B in the heart of Sioux Falls.
